On Elisa’s 3rd birthday, we left Conference for a few days of vacation! We did take away one extra from Conference – all the 3-4 year olds in the nursery shared colds. And Elisa shared with Mommy and especially Daddy. Still, it wasn’t too bad a coldand on vacation we had plenty of opportunity to rest!
We stayed at the same KOA campground in Ohio that we did last year – still luxury camping with bathroom and kitchen. The former was especially important as Elisa is getting close on potty training. We again went to the carousel (even if they misspell it “carrousel”) in Mansfield and this year also took in more of the downtown, watching the owner of a candy shop make peanut butter cups from a vat of chocolate and wandering around town to look at water fountains. These are remarkably absorbing to a 3-year old – with a number of reminders she did manage not to get in – and also to Mommy who pondered problems of volume. We also took advantage of the trip to stock up on cold medicine.
Every day we took great advantage of the pool and Elisa continues to become more independent, kicking legs on her own to move around and sometimes moving arms. We had so much fun in the pool that we didn’t take pictures again. She also had a lot of fun on the playgrounds, with the see-saws (really!) hands-down favorites. The fire truck on springs was a close second, but required Mommy and Daddy to participate, so there are no pictures.
We took advantage of the daily crafts, which Elisa kept short but sweet. The last morning we stayed longer to go to craft and that might have been the first time that Elisa did all the painting herself – she frequently commandeers painting services of an adult. (Q-tips are a wonderful idea for painting!) One morning after craft we decided to do mini-golfing. Elisa did better than expected- not at golfing, but staying focused. She played 5 holes, wandered away, played 3 holes teaming with mom and dad, and played the last hole under durress – so she played half. Much as we tried to teach proper form, you can see that she used her own methods.
It was a wonderful vacation which allowed us all to get away and rest for a few days!
